  14. MCDPlayer is public domain, meaning that you can use and spread the
  15. program as you want.
  16.  
  17. You are using MCDPlayer on your own risk. I cannot be held responsible
  18. for any damage caused by MCDPlayer. This includes system crashes, bugs
  19. in the program or this documentation.
  20.  
  21. This will be the only distribution of MCDP done by me. It works fine
  22. with some SCSI2-CDROMs (i.e. Toshiba 4101, 3401, SONY CDU-554) but
  23. refuses to run on others (NEC). I don't have the time to search for
  24. bugs that occurs in combination with hardware that I do not own.
  25. I hope there's anyone who will continue development of MCDP.

  41. 2. The purpose of this program...
  42.  
  43. ...is to play audio CDs (CDDAs) on your CD-ROM drive. Therefore it must
  44. be connected to a SCSI-host.
  45.  
  46. MCDP has some special features:
  47.  
  48. - Very compact GUI on your Workbench screen
  49. - GUI is designed like a CD player
  50. - direct access of first 20 titles of every CD
  51. - automatically detects CDs and displays the interpreter, the CDs title
  52.   and the name of the title currently played.
  53. - automatically detects the change of the CD.
  54. - Editor to add new CDs to your database.
  55. - Editor for programming
  56. - Configuration using tooltypes: SCSI-device and -unit, window position
  57.   and path of CD database
  58. - Commodoty with hotkeys for start/stop/title selection

  61. 3. Installation:
  62.  
  63. Before you start it for the first time, you should adapt the tooltypes
  64. of MCDPs icon to your hardware configuration:
  65.  
  66. FONTNAME=<name>.font
  67.    Replace <name> with the name of the font you want to use in the
  68.    display. There are 4 Fonts in the MCDP archive:
  69.    - MCDP_DOT.font : Looks like a dot matrix LCD display
  70.    - MCDP_LCD.font : Looks like a segmented LCD display
  71.    - MDCP_LC2.font : LCD display font including lower case characters
  72.    - MCDP_STD.font : Best readable but somehow boring
  73.    You must copy at least one of these fonts to your FONTS: drawer and
  74.    set its name in the tooltypes.

  76. SCSI_DEV=<name>.device
  77.    Insert the device name of your SCSI host as <name>. Commodore uses
  78.    scsi.device as device name for their hosts. This is the default value.
  79.  
  80. SCSI_ID=<nr>
  81.    SCSI-ID of your CD-ROM drive. As this number must be in the range of
  82.    0 to 6, you can detect it by "try and error" if you don't know it.
  83.    Default value is 1.

  85. SONGPATH=<path>
  86.    Use this tooltype to determine the path where MCDP will save its CD
  87.    database. Default is the actual drawer at startup.
  88.  
  89. WND_POS=<path>
  90.    MCDP opens its window on the default publicscreen. You can determine
  91.    the position:
  92.    0: Centered to the visual part of your screen (if your screen doesn't
  93.       auto scroll: centered to the screen)
  94.    1: right upper corner of the screen
  95.    2: left upper corner of the screen
  96.    3: left lower corner of the screen
  97.    4: right lower corner of the screen
  98.    The editor windows always open in the screen center.

  100. Wrong settings lead to the following results:
  101.  
  102. - MCDP refuses to start: Wrong device name or unoccupied SCSI-ID.
  103. - MCDP starts, but only shows the "breadless arts" logo: The ID doesn't
  104.   belong to a CD-ROM drive or it is not operable.
  105. - MCDP opens its window and closes it instantly: The font can't be
  106.   found.

  108. Now you can start MCDP from Workbench. It is also possible to start it
  109. from Shell by using the tooltypes as parameters:

  114. 4 Bedienung:
  115.  
  116. The "Look & Feel" of MCDP is almost identical to a CD player. So there
  117. should be no problems.
  118.  
  119. I'll describe the gadgets below the display first, beginning at the
  120. left edge:
  121.  
  122. Play ( > ):
  123.   Play CD, beginning with the first title. In program mode, playing
  124.   starts with the first title of the program. In both cases the CD-ROM
  125.   must have been in idle state before, the play symbol ( ">", right
  126.   lower corner of display ) mustn't have been visible.

  128. Pause ( || ):
  129.   Pauses playing until this Gadget is klicked again.
  130.  
  131. Stop ( [] ):
  132.   Stops playing and quits program mode.
  133.  
  134. Skip backwards ( |< ):
  135.   Skips to the title that has been played before the actual one.
  136.  
  137. Skip forward ( >| ):
  138.   Skips to the next title.
  139.  
  140. Search backward ( << ):
  141.   Jumps 20 seconds backwards in the actual title.

  143. Search forward ( >> ):
  144.   Jumps 20 seconds forward in the actual title.

  146. Eject ( ^ ):
  147.   Eject CD.

  150. At the right side of the display you find some more gadgets:

  152. Number gadgets ( 1-19 ):
  153.   In standard mode you can select the first 19 titles of the CD
  154.   directly. In program mode the keys 1-8 select the actual pro-
  155.   gram, the others are unused.

  157. Direct input ( + ):
  158.   Now you can type in the title number using the number gadgets
  159.   1 to 10 (= 0).
  160.  
  161. Edit title list ( LIST ):
  162.   You see a window with some gadgets to put in the interpreters
  163.   and the CDs name and the names of all titles. To leave this
  164.   window you find the same gadgets as in the preferences pro-
  165.   grams of your workbench.
  166.   After you saved the title list of a CD, this CD will be iden-
  167.   tified whenever you insert it. The titles are displayed.

  169. Edit programs ( PGM ):
  170.   In the program window, you see two big lists: On the left side,
  171.   all titles of the actual CD are displayed. The list on the
  172.   right side is empty. It will hold the programmed titles. The
  173.   gadgets between the two lists are used to clear the actual
  174.   program (New), to select the selection mode of the program
  175.   list and to select the actually edited program.

  177.   The programming system is very simple: Whenever you select a
  178.   title of the left list, it is appended to the program list. If
  179.   you select a title in the right list, the action depends on
  180.   the selection mode: It can be deleted or moved up, down, to
  181.   the top or to the bottom of the program list.

  183. Start program mode ( PG# ):
  184.   This gadget activates the program mode of MCDP. The display shows
  185.   "PGM" then. If you klick on "Play" now, the first title of the
  186.   start program will be played. Alternatively, you can select the
  187.   number of a program using the number gadgets before.

  190. 5. Keyboard control:
  191.  
  192. MCDP uses the numeric keypad in conjunction with Ctrl and the left
  193. Alt key as hotkeys for all basic functions. Therefore, the window
  194. doesn't necessarily have to be selected.
